Messier 32, Dwarf Galaxy in Andromeda

M32 is a dwarf elliptical galaxy and is quite unusual because it harbors a super massive black hole of perhaps 3 million solar masses. This is similar to our Milky Way's black hole, but M32 has less than one percent of the Milky Way's mass. It is likely that M32 was a larger galaxy and has been stripped by repeated encounters with the Andromeda galaxy.
